  • WeProgram.NET User Group: "Windows Forms DataGrid - Now and in the Future"

Tomorrow night is the next meeting for WeProgram.NET and I'm pleased to announce that Dr. Clay Burch of Syncfusion will be presenting on Windows Forms development. The talk promises to be very interesting and a great opportunity to see how best to use today's framework technologies to build stellar Windows applications on the .NET platform.

Windows Forms DataGrid - Now and in the future, by Dr. Clay Burch

Clay will walk through the process of using and customizing the Windows Forms DataGrid.  The discussion will begin with how to use the DataGrid in simple situations such as the display of flat tables and Master-Detail relations.  Also covered will be examples such as setting the backcolor of individual cells based on some dynamic criteria.  Additional topics include how to use reflection to specify row heights programmatically in a DataGrid.  In the second half of the presentation, Clay will look to the future and show how to build the same applications using the new Whidbey DataGridView control.  In addition, we will discuss the virtual mode of this control.  Sample code will be provided.

Dr. Clay Burch is Manager of Technical Support for Syncfusion, Inc., a vendor of Windows Forms and ASP.NET controls for the Microsoft .NET Framework.  Since 2002, Clay has been a Microsoft MVP for C# and .NET Windows Forms technologies, recognized for his contributions to news groups and an article written on Customizing Windows Forms DataGrid for MSDN.  Prior to working at Syncfusion, Clay was a consultant, trainer and support engineer for RogueWave Software's Stingray Division.  A pioneer in developing investment software for personal computers, he founded his own company in 1979 for that purpose.  For 20 years, Clay designed and implemented personal investment software sold by Dow Jones and Co., Standard & Poor's and RTR Software.  He has also taught Mathematics and Computer Science at Northwestern University and the University of Texas at El Paso.  Clay is a graduate of N.C. State University and has a Ph.D. from Tulane University.
