Greg Young [MVP]

T - 1 (off topic)

Ok I only have 365 days left until I turn the big 3-0. I guess that means that I have to really accomplish something this year.

But to save myself ... I realized that I am only 23 and have plenty of time ... in fact I can be 23 forever.

I guess its all about picking the right number system.

My birthday present to myself will be a new laptop. Anyone got any good recommendations?

Anyways, I need a beer.

I just switched over to a MacBook Pro about 4 months ago. It was pretty scary for a Windows only guy and a person who developed in Visual Studio for a living. With that said, I can now say that buying the MacBook Pro was the best computer purchase I have ever made. I decided to take the plunge knowing I could always use Windows on the hardware natively if I didn't like OS X with Boot Camp. Right now I am trying to finish off finding replacements for my Windows apps in order to get it off of my MacBook entirely. If my recommendation isn't obvious, get a MacBook, but you might want to wait until October so you can get Leopard with it.

Please define your requirements, then perhaps i can make a recommendation. ;)

Do you prefer thin/light or ultimate power?

Screen size/resolution requirements?

Primary usage?

I'm going with the crowd... MacBook Pro. Best Windows PC I ever bought. The bluetooth stack written by Apple for Windows is also the best bluetooth stack I've ever used. It's cheesy, but even the stuff that Apple creates for Windows seems to "just work". There are some corner cases where there are quirks with some of their apps, but for the most part, they just work. As for apps on Mac... I'm pretty much completely converted to Mac for documents, spreadsheets, presentations, email, address book, and calendaring. Saying goodbye to Outlook was grand. I prefer to do my dev work on my Mac, but I have VS05 and SQL (etc) on a dual boot partition that I load into Mac via VMware Fusion. I keep old Windows stuff there as well.
